The Creative Testing Framework

Creative is the single biggest lever in paid social today. Here's the structured testing system we use to ship, learn, and scale without burning budget on guesses.

On Meta, creative now drives the majority of performance variance — more than audience, bidding, or placement. So we treat creative as the primary variable and run a disciplined testing system rather than a guessing game.

We test in two layers. Layer one is format and hook testing: we launch a batch of distinct concepts (founder, UGC, demo, listicle, before/after) each in its own ad set with equal budget, letting the algorithm find signal. A concept needs roughly 5,000–10,000 impressions before we read it, and we judge on hook rate (3-second views) and hold rate before looking at ROAS. Layer two is iteration: we take the single best-performing concept and build four variants of it — different openings, pacing, offers, and CTAs — to find the version that scales.

The rule that keeps this from getting expensive: one variable per test, a pre-decided kill threshold, and a weekly cadence. We ship roughly 100 creative concepts a month per active account. Velocity beats perfection, because on paid social the only way to find what works is to put enough distinct ideas in front of real people.
